The world uses music charts to determine the popularity of songs in many countries, as well as an entire planet. The charts are constantly changing, and are usually ranked by the top 10, 20, 40, or 100 songs. You may have heard of popular music charts such as the Hit parade, Top 40, or Hot 100. Your local radio station may also have their own type of music charts for the songs most popularly ranked in your city. Music charts are typically used as a marketing tool just like other sales statistics are, but they have also become a type of popular media culture in their own way.
